About Us
The New Britain Latino Coalition was formed out of a desire to improve the quality of life of Latinos within New Britain by promoting business growth, fostering community and celebration of Latino culture, and advocating for the needs and desires of Latinos in New Britain. To work most effectively, the New Britain Latino Coalition focuses the majority of their efforts on community education, well-being and recognition of Latino veterans, and business development. To date, they have organized important, community-impacting projects in hopes of further improving the lives and communities of New Britain Latinos.
VISION & GOALS
Community Enrichment
To encourage the establishment of community bonds, connection, and teamwork within the Latino community of New Britain.
Celebration of Culture & History
To encourage the preservation and celebration of Latino culture and history, and to celebrate the ways Latinos have impacted their communities and the world.
Community Enrichment
To promote the growth of existing businesses and establishment of new businesses within the Latino district of New Britain through projects like Barrio Latino, which seeks to see New Britain’s Arch Street be transformed into a home of flourishing Latino businesses, cultural celebration, and close knit community.
Supporting Veterans
To give Latino veterans the support they need and recognition they deserve for their service. To date, the New Britain Latino Coalition has helped to make April 13th an official day to observe the heroism of Puerto Ricans (Boriqueneers) in the US army and established a monument in New Britain in honor their service
Advocacy
To educate Latinos on important community issues that affect them and encourage them to participate in making their voices heard through voting and other means.
To advocate for and leverage funding in order to better our schools and curriculums, and to support arts and extracurriculars.
To encourage leadership from within the Latino community by presenting leadership opportunities in our community and building up leadership skills.
